The following is a list of preliminary banking market definitions currently used by this Reserve Bank in analyzing the competitive effects of banking proposals within the Ninth Federal Reserve District. The market definitions are typically based upon several factors that include, but need not be limited to, trade areas, commuting patterns, political boundaries, and location and size of banks and other financial institutions.
Since the market definitions are preliminary, they are subject to modification as the above mentioned factors change. Evaluation of a preliminary market definition is typically linked to analysis of specific applications. The definitions described here reflect those in use as of April 2008.
