Gary "Hoov" Hoover

Professor of Economics and Executive Director of the Murphy Institute Tulane University

Gary Hoover is the executive director of the Murphy Institute at Tulane University, a professor of economics, and an affiliate professor of law. His work explores the impact of economic policy on wealth and income inequality. Hoover also applies a critical eye to questions about ethics in economics, including work on plagiarism, academic misconduct, and the historical exclusion of Black economists from leadership positions in economics associations. He is a co-chair of the American Economic Association’s Committee on the Status of Minority Groups in the Economics Profession; founding editor of the Journal of Economics, Race, and Policy; and a network member at the Center for Economic Studies and ifo Institute in Germany.
