Mallika Thomas is a research economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis’s Opportunity & Inclusive Growth Institute and a non-resident fellow at the Brookings Institution. She was previously an assistant professor at Cornell University and a visiting assistant professor at Princeton University. Mallika has also held appointments with the Board of Governors and the Harvard Kennedy School’s Center for International Development.

Mallika received her B.S. in Physics and B.A in Economics from Yale University and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago. Her research interests include labor economics, personnel economics, the economics of the family, and human capital formation. Her work has examined topics such as the gender gap in promotions, the structure of firm pay and on-the-job training, inequality in earnings and non-wage benefits, and the labor market impacts of parental leave policies. Mallika’s research has been featured in outlets like the New York Times and Business Insider.
