The National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) recently presented Awards of Merit in Housing and Community Development to three housing agencies in Minnesota, according to Minnesota NAHRO Report. The NAHRO awards acknowledge outstanding examples of affordable housing development. Recognized are:
St. Cloud Housing and Redevelopment Agency, for constructing the Brownstones Family Housing Development and The Creeks Townhomes;
City of St. Paul Public Housing Agency, for modernizing the 12-story Cleveland Hi-Rise and 14-story Edgerton Hi-Rise apartment buildings; and
Scott County Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA), for enabling certain tenants to participate in a homebuyers club that provides homeownership training and down-payment assistance; implementing a "Land Banking" program to allow HRA to negotiate volunteer purchases of properties with city and county funds; and constructing the Hamilton, a mixed-use building featuring residential, commercial and classroom space.
The Brownstones Family Housing Development in St. Cloud, Minn., is one of two properties developed by St. Cloud HRA to receive 2001 Awards of Merit from NAHRO. Designed to increase neighborhood density and fit the architectural character of nearby buildings, the 12-unit complex rents to low- to moderate-income individuals. (Photo courtesy St. Cloud HRA)
