Financial Modernization
This issue of The Region is dedicated to the Financial Services Modernization Act of 1999
(Gramm-Leach-Bliley), and includes an analysis of the new law by Minneapolis Fed President Gary Stern, as well as a review from the bank's supervisory staff. The magazine features an interview with Rep. Jim Leach, chairman of the U.S. House Committee on Banking and Financial Services, conducted by Stern.

Six prominent contributors also offer their assessment of financial modernization, with opinions on such topics as consumer privacy, community banking, regulation and the Community Reinvestment Act. Other features include a brief summary of the bill, a historical review of the influence of Sen. Carter Glass, and a timeline of major banking legislation and regulation during the 20th century.
