Fourth Annual Essay Contest Attracts Greatest
Number of Entries
In what has become an annual event for Ninth District high schools
and the Minneapolis Fed, the bank's 1991-92 essay
contest drew a total of 290 essays from all six district states,
42 more than last year and the most since the contest began in 1988.
In their essays, students argued why reform of the banking system might
be necessary and what types of reform would be most effective.
The contest's panel of judges selected 30 finalists, all of whom received
a $75 U.S. savings bond and were invited to attend a
one-day workshop and awards program at the Minneapolis Fed in late
April. First- and second- place winners received an additional $200
and $100 savings bond respectively.
Renee Maheshwari, Park Center High School, Brooklyn Park,
Minn., took first place. Second place went to Johan Hueffer,
Edina High School, Edina, Minn.
