In 1997, real gross state product (GSP)the value added in state production by labor and propertygrew 4.3 percent nationally to $7.3 trillion. By state, growth rates in real GSP ranged from an increase of 7.6 percent in Oregon to a decline of 0.2 percent in Hawaii. The top three statesCalifornia, New York and Texasencompass 28.1 percent of total GSP.
