Monetary Advisor
(PDF)
Ellen is a monetary advisor at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis and an adjunct professor of economics at the University of Minnesota. She is also an editor at the Review of Economic Dynamics, a research economist at the National Bureau of Economic Research, and treasurer of the Society for Economic Dynamics.
Ellen received her B.S. in economics and mathematics from Boston College and her Ph.D. from Stanford University. Prior to coming to Minnesota she taught at Duke University. She has also taught short courses at European University Institute, University of Pennsylvania, Stockholm School of Economics, UCLA, International Monetary Fund, Arizona State University, and Universidad do Minho.
Ellen’s research is concerned with the aggregate effects of monetary and fiscal policy—in particular, the effects on GDP, investment, the allocation of hours, and the stock market.
Her recent work with colleague Ed Prescott reconsiders some puzzles in macroeconomics and international finance in light of the fact that some investments are unmeasured. Her recent work with colleagues V.V. Chari and Patrick Kehoe is concerned with methods to account for business cycles.
