Ken Powell joined General Mills in 1979, was elected president and COO in 2006, CEO in 2007, and chairman of the board in 2008. He retired from General Mills on January 1, 2018, but remains actively engaged in the business community. His affiliations include positions on the boards of Medtronic, the University of Minnesota Board of Regents, and Partners in Food Solutions.

In 2016, the Keystone Policy Center honored Mr. Powell and General Mills with its Founder’s Award, recognizing his leadership of a company that takes a collaborative approach to solving global problems. He received the 2013 Corporate Citizenship Award from the Committee for Economic Development. Mr. Powell earned his BS in Biology at Harvard University and his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
