What We Do

The Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis supports the Federal Reserve System through:

  • Supervision and regulation of the nation's banking, financial and payments systems;
  • Aiding the nation's central bank in realizing national economic goals through monetary policy actions that influence the availability and cost of money and credit in the economy, and participating in the Federal Open Market Committee;
  • Gathering and analyzing economic data in its region, the results of this economic research helping to determine the nation's monetary policy;
  • Assuring the smooth movement of funds between banks, savings and loans and credit unions through a nationwide electronic payments system;
  • Distributing currency and coin to banks in the Ninth District and maintaining the quality and integrity of currency and coin in circulation;
  • Promoting community development through fair, impartial, and efficient access to credit and related financial services;
  • Providing purchase and account maintenance services to the public on behalf of the U.S. Treasury;
  • And more functions as necessary.
