The QLmonthly statistics measure the share of workers who report they were employed last month and not employed this month by the reason for their separation: quit or layoff. These data are updated monthly and offer the longest series on quits and layoffs at a timely frequency. Quits and layoffs are leading indicators of employment and unemployment; thus, these statistics offer a detailed view of the drivers of labor market dynamics.

Latest update: September 25, 2026
Update note: Files will be updated mid-month as data are released.
The data are constructed using Current Population Survey (CPS) monthly basic files data to compute the percentage of employed workers who quit or are laid off to nonemployment. All data are seasonally adjusted. The main series is prime-age (25–54 years old) and smoothed with a 6-month centered rolling average.
Additional data series are available from FRED.
