Norma Nickerson has served as the director of the Institute for Tourism and Recreation Research (ITRR) at the University of Montana’s W.A. Franke College of Forestry & Conservation since 1995. The ITRR oversees a variety of tax-funded projects, contracts, and research in the recreation industry. Dr. Nickerson has led research and published extensively on this field of study, and is the author of three books. She is a member of the US Travel Association and associate editor of the Journal of Travel Research.

Dr. Nickerson’s previous affiliations include President of the Greater Western Chapter of the Travel and Tourism Research Association. She is the 2011 recipient of the Greater Western Chapter Travel and Tourism Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Nickerson earned BS from the University of North Dakota and her MS and PhD in Recreation and Leisure from the University of Utah.
