Minneapolis Fed Privacy Notice

Scope

The Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis (the Bank) cares about your privacy. The information you share with us allows us to communicate and engage with you more effectively.

This Privacy Notice applies to personal information we collect, including online at minneapolisfed.org, or in person at meetings, community visits, conferences, and other events, or from partner organizations. When we use the term “personal information” in this notice, we mean personal information handled or retained by the Bank that is linked or linkable to an individual.

This Privacy Notice does not apply to:

  • Activities covered by the General Reserve Bank Data Privacy Notice, which includes information collected by Federal Reserve law enforcement;
  • Information collected from you during the employment application process. This activity is covered by the employment application terms and conditions shared at that collection point;
  • Activities in which the Bank acts as fiscal agent for the U.S. Treasury; and
  • Functions delegated to the Bank by the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.

What personal information do we collect?

The Bank may collect personal information from you. Here are the most common collection methods and categories of information we collect:

Information you actively give to us
We may collect information directly from you in a number of ways, including when you voluntarily provide it to us via forms on this site or the sites of our service providers or when you provide it to us in-person at events. This information includes:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Physical address
  • Company
  • Job Title
  • Event registration information, such as dietary restrictions
  • Online Identities, such as social media handle
  • Demographic information you provide us, such as your age

Information we collect through automatic means
This website uses third-party website services to collect anonymous information about our users through automated means to improve the user experience. Website usage data is captured using first and third-party cookies and other tracking technologies to determine the popularity of products, services and online activity. Additionally, we use this information for site optimization. Information collected from these third-party website services is provided to the Bank at an anonymous and aggregate level and not all information collected by the third-party service providers is provided to the Bank.

The information collected by third-party website services, includes, but is not limited to:

  • How you visit the site: e.g., from a desktop computer, mobile device, or tablet.
  • Information related to your device: e.g., IP address, identifiers for mobile devices.
  • Which web browser you're using and its version: e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge.
  • Browing information: e.g., third-party cookies, tracking technologies, website usage data, web beacons, web server logs.
  • Which pages you visit and how long you stay on them within a single browser session.
  • User behaviors based on anonymous demographic data such as age range, gender, and interest based on online activities.

Third-party website services used on this site include:

  • Microsoft Clarity to capture how users interact with our website through behavioral metrics, heatmaps, and session replay to improve our products and services. How do we use personal information?

We may use the information we collect from you to:

  • Email you content in which you have indicated an interest;
  • Alert you to upcoming events;
  • Share publications and newsletters, including announcements about newly published works or updates to existing research;
  • Request your participation in surveys;
  • Mail you print publications and other materials;
  • Sign you up for tours of the Bank, if requested;
  • Allow us to contact you regarding a speaking request;
  • Respond to your requests and inquiries;
  • Comply with legal requirements;
  • Analyze and improve our operations;
  • Administer or customize our website; or
  • Perform other Reserve Bank and System activities as needed.

How and why do we share personal information?

We share the personal information you give us primarily to provide the services and information you request and to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our operations. We do not sell personal information to unrelated third parties for their commercial benefit.

The Bank & Federal Reserve System
Personal information you provide to us may be shared within the Bank and within the Federal Reserve System (e.g., the other Reserve Banks or Federal Reserve Board) for the purposes described in this notice. For example, if you provide your contact information to sign up for a Bank email subscription, this information may be shared within the Bank for the purpose of sending you content we believe may be of interest to you.

Partner Organizations
We may share personal information with organizations we partner with for various purposes in support of our mission, including to deliver events and other relevant content that you request, or we believe may be of interest to you. These partner organizations include community development, outreach, and interest groups we work with to serve the region.

Service Providers
We may share personal information with companies that provide services to us, such as email subscription providers, web hosting providers, analytics providers, printers, or survey providers. These companies need the information in order to provide the services we procure from them. Where practical, we require these vendors to only use, share, and retain the personal information we share with them solely for the purposes for which we provided it to them.

Three service providers that merit specific mention are the Bank’s email, event, and survey service providers. Personal information is shared with Constant Contact to provide email subscription services, with Cvent to assist us in registering you for events, and with SurveyMonkey to administer surveys. We may disclose personal information where required by law or to protect the property, rights, or safety of the Bank, its employees, or others.

Physical Mail
If you no longer wish to receive printed materials, please contact the relevant Bank department to opt-out:

Email Subscriptions & Notifications
If you no longer wish to receive email subscriptions and email notifications, you may opt-out of receiving them by clicking the unsubscribe link contained in those emails.

Other Choices
If you would like to opt out of some of the automated collecting performed by our website, you can set up your browser to disable cookies. See your browser’s help section for details on how to do that. Doing so may impact how the website functions.

How do we store and protect personal information?

We maintain administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information. However, no information can be guaranteed to be completely secure. You are also responsible for taking reasonable steps to protect the quality, confidentiality, and security of your personal information.

The amount of time we keep personal information will vary based on various factors, including operational requirements, system constraints, and the Bank’s record retention policies. Generally, we retain personal information for as long as necessary to support the purposes described in this notice or as required by law.

Children

We do not knowingly collect personal information online from children under the age of 13.

Jurisdiction

The Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis is an independent instrumentality of the United States, established and operated solely in the United States. The Bank’s privacy practices, including its collection, use, sharing, and retention of personal information are not intended to subject the Bank to the laws or jurisdiction of any country other than those of the United States, as applicable to the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis.

Changes to this notice will be posted on this page along with the most recent update date. The Bank reserves the right to update and modify this notice and other specific privacy notices at any time.
