Minimum Wage Study

The minimum wage in The City of Minneapolis increased to $10 per hour beginning on January 1, 2018, and then increased gradually to $15 per hour by July 2022 for large firms and by July 2024 for small firms. The City of Saint Paul announced its minimum wage ordinance in 2018 and began implementing it in January 2020. The minimum wage is scheduled to reach $15 for all firms in Saint Paul in July of 2027.

Bank economists are carrying out a comprehensive research analysis of these minimum wage increases on workers and on businesses in the short and long run. The research uses data available through a partnership with three Minnesota agencies: the Department of Employment and Economic Development, the Department of Revenue, and the Department of Human Services.
