Conversations with the Fed: Income Distributions and Dynamics in America

What do we know about incomes in the United States? How are incomes distributed, and how do earners move within the income distribution? What does this tell us about income inequality and income mobility over time and for different demographic groups? Illenin Kondo, senior research economist at the Minneapolis Fed’s Opportunity & Inclusive Growth Institute, answered these questions and more in this virtual conversation.

Prior to joining the Institute, Illenin was an assistant professor of economics at the University of Notre Dame. He was also a senior economist with the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in the Trade and Financial Studies section before his time at the University of Notre Dame. Illenin also taught at the Johns Hopkins University. Illenin holds a Diplôme d’Ingénieur from the École Supérieure d’Électricité, an M.Sc. in electrical and computer engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Minnesota.
