Great Falls supports ambitious development

In late December, the Great Falls City-County Planning Board approved plans for an "upscale" project on the city's eastern edge that would combine housing, commercial and recreational elements.

The 867-acre area would be developed over a span of half a century to include 326 acres of single-family housing, 159 acres of green space, 28 acres of commercial construction, about four acres of higher density building, with 151 acres left for future development.

Cascade County and the state departments of Transportation and Environmental Quality must first approve the master plan and infrastructure development. Once that occurs the developers expect to begin the first phase of construction with 44 housing lots and an 18-hole golf course.
