State makes top dozen

According to a New Jersey research firm, Montana is the 11th best state in which to vacation. NFO Plog recently released its "2002 Delightful Dozen Top U.S. States, Satisfaction Index." The index measures tourists' satisfaction with their vacation experience in each state; Montana's ranking appears to be based on the state's outdoor beauty, activities, well-maintained lodging and attractions, and weather.

States ranking ahead of Montana include Hawaii and Florida, one and two, respectively, as well as Maine, Alaska, California, Colorado and South Carolina. Washington came in just behind Montana.
