Jesse Rothstein

Jesse Rothstein is a professor of public policy and economics at the University of California, Berkeley. He is also a faculty director of the California Policy Lab, which generates research insights for government impact through hands-on partnerships with government agencies. Rothstein’s research interests include inequality, education, determinants of wages, and tax and transfer policies. His current research looks at industry and geographic wage premiums, higher education admissions and enrollment, and safety net programs. Rothstein spent the 2009–10 academic year in public service, first as senior economist at the Council of Economic Advisers and then as chief economist at the U.S. Department of Labor. Rothstein is a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research and an associate editor of the Review of Economics and Statistics, Education Finance and Policy, and Industrial Relations: A Journal of Economy and Society.
