Michael E. Waugh Monetary Advisor

Michael Waugh joined the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis in 2020 as a monetary advisor. He previously served as Professor of Economics and the William R. Berkley Term Professor of Economics and Business at New York University’s Stern School of Business. Earlier in his career, he was a junior scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis in 2008–09.

Michael earned a B.A. from Saint Anselm College, an M.A. from Fordham University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa. His research spans international trade, macroeconomics, and development.

His work has been published in leading journals, including Econometrica, the American Economic Review, the Quarterly Journal of Economics, and the Journal of International Economics. He currently serves as an associate editor for the International Economic Review.

Michael is also the creator of www.tradewartracker.com, a live, publicly accessible platform that provides visualizations of trade and tariff data, along with open access to the underlying data and code.
