Michael Waugh joined the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis in 2020 as a monetary advisor. He is also a Professor of Economics and the William R. Berkley Term Professor of Economics and Business at New York University's Stern School of Business and a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. Previously, he was a visiting professor at the Center for Monetary and Financial Studies in Madrid, Spain and a research economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis.
Michael received a B.A. from Saint Anselm College, an M.A. from Fordham University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa. His research concerns the relationship between international trade and growth and development. Recently his research has focused on trade-induced distributional issues and the US-China trade war.
Michael has published articles in venues such as the American Economic Review, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Journal of Monetary Economics and the Journal of International Economics. He currently serves as an associate editor for the International Economic Review.
