Research assistants are generally hired directly after undergraduate study, and they work alongside economists. They are usually in their positions for a few years and leave the role well suited to pursue a graduate degree—often in economics. This count of research assistants includes research analysts, a role unique to the Minneapolis Fed. Research analysts are current economics Ph.D. students who are employed by the Bank.
